NEW ONLINE RETAILER SUPPORTS CAT "HEROES"

OldMaidCatLady.com, a new online-only retailer of supplies for cats and people who love cats, has announced a Cat Heroes of the Week program.  Each week, a grassroots non-profit organization that provides support to cats will be featured on the site, with information about what they’re doing to help cats.  10% of that week’s product sales through www.OldMaidCatLady.com’s shopping cart will also be donated to the featured organization.

“I’ve always loved cats.  Although I’m just a small company, this is a way both to help cats and educate people about who’s helping them, through my business,” said OldMaidCatLady.com’s founder, Lynn Maria Thompson of Neptune Beach, Florida.  Thompson has chosen many of the groups to be featured each week based on their Charity Navigator rankings for efficiency, good management and the percentage of donations that actually go toward their work.

Typical of the organizations to be featured on the site are Belleglen Sanctuary and The Animal Rescue & Adoption Agency (TARAA).  Belleglen Sanctuary, based in northern California, takes in cats with special needs and gives them a home for life.  They also offer some for adoption, if the cats are able.  TARAA takes in cats deemed "in danger" from animal shelters in the Jacksonville, Florida area and fosters them until they can find homes.  While most groups are specifically working with cats, there may be some surprise features through the year as the program develops.

Thompson is currently contacting other organizations, and has tentatively scheduled them throughout the remainder of 2010 and into 2011.  Supporters of each organization are encouraged to visit OldMaidCatLady.com during their charity’s featured week to shop for their cat supplies.  “Hopefully,” says Thompson with a smile, “they’ll find something that strikes their fancy.  People buy things for their cats all the time.  Now, just by buying some of those things at OldMaidCatLady.com, they can help other cats.  It’s really very exciting!”
