Cat Slicker Comb

Cats with a long, silky coat need what's known as a "slicker brush" like this. These brushes have long wire bristles that reach all the way through the coat to the skin. Long coats mat nearest to the skin first, so it's important to reach that layer of the coat. If your cat also has a dense undercoat, you’ll need to start with an undercoat rake before using the slicker brush.

To use this brush most effectively, lift an area of the coat and brush with the grain of the hair, then against the grain with a lighter touch. This must be done daily to keep the coat from getting matted. If you've let it go too long, you'll need to use a dematting rake to remove the mats before going back to daily brushing with the slicker.
